Letter in the The Age, RE Oprah
I've just read my letter which The Age published this morning, turned to Susan and said, 'that's a lame letter'. Susan replied, 'yes it is. That's what they want in their letters'
There you go. I understand her visit will bring economic benefits to Oz, but the point is, The Age yesterday suggested she's making the trip anyway. The paper revealed that we are already promising $3 million to her, and that is expected to go much higher. The 1/2 mil figure is only for the Vict State Govt

Paying tax to Oprah
I WANT my tax back.
I can't believe the Victorian state government is handing over half a million dollars to Oprah Winfrey so that she and her friends can come and visit Australia (''There's nothing like Oprah in Australia'', The Age, 15/9). I'm pretty sure I didn't sign up to pay tax to Oprah.
Would it not be more sensible to invest the funds in helping poor Australians, schools or hospitals rather than filling the pockets of one of America's wealthiest celebrities?
